The concept is to have a fleet of SWORC in stand-by positions at strategically placed depots. For the purpose of high mobility and fast response each SWORC is a self-contained unit stored in a 20 ft container including trailer and all necessary equipment to skim oil. On arrival at the launch site the SWORC is removed from the container, expanded to full breadth on the trailer and ready to sail. When arriving to the oil spill the bow collector is used to recover oil into bags, which are sealed and dumped for later pick up.

Operation – Lamor launching

On arrival to the oil spill, the following steps are completed to launch the LAMOR skimmer:

  • Sea fastening strap is removed
  • The skimmer is manually pushed forward into launch position
  • Each arm is manually unfolded and fixed by a brace rod
  • Hydraulic lines are connected by the use of quick couplings
  • The skimmer is rotated into the water by a hydraulic cylinder fitted to the baseplate
  • The bagging frame is moved into position and a bag is fitted
